Homelessness charity launches ‘Poster Bakes’ bakery with St. John alumni

Published 23 July 2020

More than ever in recent months, we’ve seen how food has the ability to bring people together and raise money for a good cause. This week we’ve come across yet another example: homelessness charity The Connection at St Martin’s is launching its first social enterprise with St. John alumni.

The charity, which helps thousands of people each year stay off the streets of London, planned to open a coffee kiosk and barista training in partnership with Allpress Espresso in April. However, as the UK went into lockdown, with it went the charity’s plans and its focused turned to feeding and housing homeless clients in Westminster.

As we begin to come out the other side, The Connection has announced plans of its newly imagined enterprise: Poster Bakes. Led by new head chef Megan Coker, previously of St. John Bread & Wine, Poster Bakes is a vegan doughnut delivery business.

Currently available for delivery within three miles from the charity’s Trafalgar Square kitchen, the deep-filled doughnuts will initially come in three flavours: vanilla, chocolate and blueberry cream.

The profits from each box of doughnuts ordered will go directly to continuing the incredible work The Connection does to help thousands of people each year move away from the streets. The team will also be running kitchen sessions for people experiencing homelessness to help give them the tools and knowledge to cook for themselves and make good food decisions when they have access to a home.

Doughnuts for a good cause? How could we say no. To order, visit either the website here or Instagram here. To find out more about the charity’s work, click here
