A rare bit of good news had the food world celebrating on Instagram last night: Imad’s Syrian Kitchen will launch in Kingly Court in early November, marking the first permanent London restaurant for chef Imad Alarnab.
Alarnab’s story had touched many people: a successful restaurateur in Damascus, after his business was destroyed he and his family were forced to move to a new country in search of safety. Since moving to the UK, the chef has hosted a series of successful charity events, popular supper clubs and pop-ups. Coinciding with his fifth year in the UK, now Alarnab is bringing his beloved Syrian cuisine to Soho.
Guests can expect a selection of Syrian mezze – including the chef’s famous falafel – alongside main and sharing dishes such as crispy baby auberginee stuffed with lamb, roasted artichoke stuffed with vegetables and a watermelon, halloumi and za’atar salad.
Making his way from Lebanon through Europe, Alarnab has spent time cooking for other refugees along the way. So, it’s no surprise that £1 from every bill will be donated to Help Refugees.
“After four years I am so very excited that I am now finally going to open my own restaurant in the heart of London, the city I and my family now call home” says Alarnab. “Losing my restaurants in Damascus was devastating, but I am so happy that I can now bring my Syrian cooking to Kingly Court in Soho, the people of London who have supported me so much over the last few years.”
