With the Lunar new year coming up, Elizabeth Haigh – who we spoke to about her Borough Market restaurant Mei Mei last year – ordinarily celebrates the holiday Singapore-style with her family. Things are a bit different this year, but Haigh is keeping tradition going and launching new feast boxes to help customers celebrate at home.
Mei Mei’s boxes contain a selection of Haigh’s signature dishes to mark the start of the Year of the Ox, symbolising hard work, honesty and positivity – something we could all use more of right now. The kits feed either two people or a family of five to six (four is an unlucky number in the Chinese tradition.) There will be eight dishes on offer, including whole steamed fish with chilli and ginger, spring rolls with chilli sauce, and Haigh’s personal favourite – eight wontons served in Mei Mei’s chicken broth.
There’s also a deluxe CNY box for customers who want to go all-out, featuring a whole Mei Mei chicken, sliced roasted duck breast with BBQ sauce and a steamed tofu and caviar dish. Vegetarians haven’t been forgotten, as there’s a meat-free box, too.
The special-occasion boxes are priced from £70 to £200 and must be ordered by 8 February, for pick-up or local delivery. To find out more or to order, visit the website here
