We caught up with Ravinder Bhogal earlier this year, as she shared her hope that Jikoni’s new at-home kits would spread comfort and joy to anyone and everyone who needs it. Continuing this mission, Bhogal has brought back a popular series to keep us going in these last weeks of lockdown.
The proprietor of Jikoni has held many events at the Marylebone restaurant, including a series of Civilised Sundays, at which authors appear to dine with and to talk to guests. The series has returned digitally this March, with guests dining on Comfort & Joy food at home, while Zooming with various authors.
Sathnam Sanghera kicked off yesterday, and forthcoming speakers include Caleb Azumah Nelson – a British Ghanaian writer reading from his debut novel Open Water – and Yasmin Khan, discussing her third book, Ripe Figs: Recipes and Stories from the Eastern Mediterranean.
“In these tense, uncertain times, culture is often the first thing to be overlooked, yet it is what we need most,” says Bhogal. “We are so honoured to be celebrating these exceptional cultural leaders who share Jikoni’s values of pluralism and diversity and we are so immensely proud and excited to be hosting each one of them.”
Tickets start at £15, and guests have the option to buy a specially curated Comfort & Joy box, as well as signed copies of the books. To purchase tickets or find out more, click here
