Singaporean restaurant Singapulah & Arôme opening in Soho

Published 7 November 2019

Restaurant and bakery concept Singapulah & Arôme is opening its doors in Soho on 6 November and 13 November respectively. It is set to become the only dedicated Singaporean restaurant in the UK.

By day, the bakery (Arôme) will serve a selection of breads and pastries, combining master patissièr Aliz Adre’s French training with East Asian flavours. The menu will feature dishes such as the gula melaka coconut bun and laska tomato coriander roll, alongside the signature dish Arôme milk bread toast: a caramelised milk loaf similar to French toast.

Come evening, the space will be re-purposed to create a 50-cover restaurant (Singapulah). Singaporean head chef Lynette Zheng wil serve authentic hawker dishes such as bak chor mee, translated as noodles with minced pork, as well as a dedicated brunch menu.

The restaurant won’t just be a food destination, but will also represent true Singaporean culture and act as a platform for both modern and traditional Singaporean cuisine and arts. As such, the interiors provide a visual representation of both traditional and modern Singapore. Contemporary art from Singaporean artist Allison M Low will be on display, whilst the music will feature popular Singaporean artists of the 1960s.

Experienced restaurateur Ellen Chew is behind the new opening. Chew commented ‘Singapulah is born out of a love for true Singaporean cuisine. Through my years in the UK it has been challenging to find a place to satiate my cravings for authentic hawker food and Singapulah aims to plug that gap, as well as acting as a platform to share our diverse culture with Londoners.’

Singapulah & Arôme will be open at 15 Frith Street, W1D 4RF. For more information, visit their Instagram here
