The rumours are true – Pierre Koffmann and food critic Richard Vines are launching their very own review website, ‘Koffmann & Vines.’
With a century of experience between them, the pair has created a reputation for themselves as trusted and esteemed commentators in the industry. There aren’t many restaurants in town to open without their gracing a table.
The website will include weekly reviews of restaurants, both new and established. The first restaurant to be featured is Russell Norman’s latest Tuscan trattoria, Brutto.
Every Thursday, a new review will be added to the website. Koffmann will focus on the cooking, while Vines will pay particular attention to the general service, ambience, and background surrounding the venue.
It is thought that the duo will score each restaurant between one and four dishes – one for a good restaurant, two for a very good restaurant, three for an excellent establishment, and four for outstanding.
Koffmann, of course, is a chef known for his refined yet gutsy French cooking, having held three Michelin stars at La Tante Claire in London. He also has a close connection to the Roux brothers, cooking at Le Gavroche and The Waterside Inn in Bray.
Vines has 40 years of journalism experience under his belt and has only recently retired from his role as chief food critic at Bloomberg.
Their acclaim in the industry speaks for itself, and Bob Bob Ricard’s latest opening in the city includes a commissioned portrait of the duo.
There is a lasting call for curation in the industry, with many review sites such as Tripadvisor being accused of being overcrowded and having a lack of trust with reviewers, so we wonder if Koffmann and Vines could be the answer to the age-old question, “where should we eat tonight?’
