The team behind the wildly popular 40 Maltby Street are teaming up with acclaimed chef Anna Tobias for a new opening. Bar and restaurant Café Deco is set to open later this spring on Store Street in Bloomsbury.
They take over a café of the same name, but the restaurant and food offering will, no doubt, be very different. Tobias has previously cooked alongside Jeremy Lee at Blueprint Café and Ruth Rogers at River Cafe, most recently leaving Rochelle Canteen in 2017.
Since then, Tobias has run a six-month residency at P Franco restaurant and cooked with 40 Maltby Street’s head chef Stephen Williams on a number of occasion, a suggestion of things to come.
Tobias specialises in spare, elegant seasonal dishes. Posting a sneak preview of the food on Instagram, guests can expect dishes such as celeriac remoulade and Bayonne ham. Famed for writing its changing menu on a blackboard each night at 40 Maltby Street, it remains to be seen whether Café Deco will follow suit.
Café Deco is also teaming up with Gergovie Wines, the import and wholesale arm of 40 Maltby Street, so we’re sure an impressive and forward-looking wine list will be on offer.
