Patrick Powell’s restaurant Allegra opened last year to much critical acclaim – and now, the team has announced the next phase of its project. Allegra’s Bar, which is set to open on 27 March on the 7th floor of The Stratford.
The bar will serve a menu created by Allegra’s head chef Patrick Powell and cocktails courtesy of senior bartenders Charlotte Charret and Alessandra Viscardi. Allegra’s Bar, which has its own terrace, will work both as an addition to the main restaurant and as its own destination.
It will give diners the chance to experience Powell’s acclaimed food without having to book in advance. Guests can expect main dishes such as fried chicken with roast garlic aioli. There will also be lighter bar snacks including a cheese and pickle toast, or oat crackers with beetroot and marmalade.
Charret and Viscardi, formerly of the Bloomsbury and The Ned, have created the cocktail list to complement the food menu. Ingredients from Allegra’s dedicated farm in Sussex will be used in the cocktails, for example Up-Beet, a blend of Vida Mezcal, Altos tequila blanco and beetroot kvass from the farm. Meanwhile the Old Bee cocktail combines trimmings from Allegra’s honey cake with rum, whiskey and spiced pecan. The cocktail list changes at the weekend, serving classic Bellini’s and Bloody Mary’s, all priced at £10.
“Our bar is all about having fun, whether you’re coming for a meal or just popping in for a beer” says Powell, who before Allegra was head chef at Chiltern Firehouse. “We want it to feel like an extension of the restaurant, but also its own, relaxed and personable space. We’ve collaborated with some amazing brands such as Redchurch Brewery in Shoreditch to make our brilliant Stratford Pilsner and sourced exceptional beers from the likes of Hackney Brewery just down the road in Hackney Wick. Together with the food, cocktail list and excellent wine – we’ve built something really quite special.”
