Established in 1927, popular Soho institution L’escargot is London’s oldest French restaurant. Now, the team are heading for a new challenge, as they relocate to the Suffolk coast to launch a pop-up for the month of August: L’Escargot Sur-Mer.
Yet another example of how hospitality businesses have adapted in difficult times, the Soho team will be relocating to Suffolk. With the Greek Street site remaining closed until September, the team call the Aldeburgh High Street pop-up “our expression of our dear Greek Street restaurant in a coastal setting.”
L’Escargot Sur-Mer promises guests a little taste of France on the English coast, serving fresh fish and seafood alongside French wines. Guests can expect dishes including baked lobster with garlic butter and chips, octopus with fennel, chilli and gem lettuce salad and shellfish bisque. Desserts include lemon posset and baked raspberry and vanilla cheesecake.
“We’re open for the entire month of August so if anyone fancies a trip to the seaside for some lobster and Chablis at the height of Summer we have you fairly well covered!” writes the team on Instagram. “Our Soho staff who have looked after you for all these years will be there so you will be greeted by familiar faces and the same excellent service we are known for.”
