His ultra-high-end White City restaurant, Endo at Rotunda, caused a sensation on opening, and now chef Endo Kazutoshi has another newsworthy launch for west Londoners. Sumi, in Notting Hill, is a little sister to the main restaurant and is open now for click & collect and local delivery.
Named after Kazutoshi’s mother, Sumi will be a more casual offering, still with a focus on fresh and high quality ingredients. The ‘at home’ menu offers guests a choice of four boxes, including a signature Sumi with sushi and sashimi, alongside robata grilled salmon, scallops, unagi eel and more.
The Omasake variety includes a daily-changing selection of fresh and cured fish, while the sashimi box doesn’t need much explanation, featuring three types of tuna, sea bass and salmon. Finally, there’s a vegan box with deep fried tofu, mushroom rice, and a signature vegetable roll.
The Westbourne Grove restaurant will open properly once lockdown ends, and apparently guests can expect ‘elegant and serene’ interiors, with wood panelling and rattan. In the meantime Sumi boxes are available Thursday to Sunday to collect or within a two-mile radius of the restaurant.
