The beauty of the Wine List is having the decision taken out of your hands, leaving it to the experts to send you interesting, lesser-known wines from small scale producers. It’s an excellent way to set preconceptions aside and build an objective picture of what you do and don’t like. One of my favourites has been Sketta Grecanico, from a very traditional family run estate in south eastern Sicily. It’s an almost-orange wine thanks to light skin contact and is full of texture and body, with a satisfyingly long finish.

A little uneducated when it comes to wine, I only recently discovered Grüner Veltliner and have since been a huge fan. Grüner Veltliner is the signature grape of Austria, and has to adhere to fairly rigorous bottling and fermentation standards, meaning it’s pretty difficult to find a bad example. Though much less ubiquitous than something like Sauvignon Blanc, it’s worth making the effort to seek out. This one from Vintner is one of my favourites: dry, light and really fresh – and at a reasonable price too.

I haven’t stopped thinking about Top Cuvée over lockdown and wanted to bring some of their lively Highbury restaurant vibes to my south London flat. We put an order in from Shop Cuvée – their retail arm selling quality produce and natural wines from small suppliers – undoubtedly one of lockdown’s biggest success stories. With 10% off, I picked a selection of six wines including this Ciello Blanco Catarrato. It was the perfect companion to have with pasta, a hazy, light-bodied white from Sicily and great value at under a tenner.

I know, I know, you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but I must admit I’ll shamelessly choose a wine for its label. Natty Boy Wines is a recent addition to the CODE app and I’m somewhat obsessed. Not only because they translate wine-speak into layman’s terms, but their eclectic mix of natural wines play to my label loving instincts. I recently bought a bottle of INTELLEGO Pink Moustache 2020. It was an unusual choice for me as a devoted white wine drinker but my superficiality paid off: not only is it the prettiest of pinks but light, fruity and dangerously drinkable…
