We all need some uplifting news at the moment, so it’s great to see this year’s annual Murphia List has been announced. Created by Hot Dinners founders Catherine and Gavin Hanly, the list celebrates the most influential Irish people on London’s food and drink scene and is the biggest yet with 62 entries.
Last year’s celebration at Daffodil Mulligan marked one of the last events before lockdown, and although there’s no party this year, there’s still reason to celebrate. With the release coinciding with International Women’s Day yesterday, five women have joined the list. Designer Fioana Leahy is a new entry, as well as Ciara O’Shea from Brixton grocery and coffee house F.Mondays.
Despite a tough year for the hospitality industry, many on the list have had notable personal achievements. Clare Smyth celebrated getting three Michelin stars this year, Anna Haugh created a new delivery venture, while Mark and Alan Wogan reworked Homeslice pizza into a Take and Bake business, to name a few.
Noel Mahoney from BaxtorStorey helped coordinate the FEED NHS campaign, while Robin Gill branched out into the hotel business with a bakery, two restaurants and three bars at Birch.
“It’s great to see everyone getting ready for the end of lockdown and with new openings and projects to look forward to, 2021 is definitely looking up for Murphia in London” says Hot Dinners co-founder Catherine Hanly.
