From chocolate cheesecake to cacio e pepe, here are all the best at-home kits and takeaways the CODE team ate this week.
He’ll soon be announcing plans for his next move, but in the meantime chef Alyn Williams is doing an At Home service that launches next weekend. For an amateur like me, he’s taken all the hassle out of cooking a beautiful three-course meal. All you need to do is follow some simple steps to arrange the ingredients on the plate and heat them up.

There’s a few things I really miss about restaurants: good sushi being one, and a proper bowl of pasta being another. Cacio e pepe, in particular – which you just can’t recreate quite the same at home. That is until I tried La Nanna’s In Casa DIY kits this week. Fresh pasta delivered straight to your door, all you have to do is dust off the flour and mix in the sauce, and you can begin to dream of le dolce vita. There’s five different pastas to choose from, and a tiramisu for good measure.

When you can’t make it to the Mardi Gras in New Orleans, get yourself the Decatur shrimp boil kit! Released every Sunday at 18:00, they notoriously sell out fast. Having missed the boat for two weeks in a row, I set an alarm for 17:55 and managed to nab one at 18:02 (they were all gone within minutes). The simple 8-step process was easier than most meal prep: I chucked everything in a stock pot and we were feasting within half an hour. All the juicy shrimps, Andouille sausage, corn and potatoes which soaked up the special ‘Decaturains’ secret seasoning blend (with a little extra in a cheeky baggie for those who like it spicier), and drenched in garlic butter for extra naughtiness.

Amy Poon is carrying on the family tradition with these exemplary wontons, which for now she is making and selling via Stevie Parle’s gorgeous shop within Joy at Portobello. I was lucky enough to pick up when Amy was in situ, stuffing and shaping the spiced pork parcels, which come in fun packaging with zingy chilli vinegar dressing and spring onion garnish. Catch ‘em while you can and eat ‘em while they’re hot (I did, which explains why there is no picture of the food itself!)

I first went to Farang four years ago when Sebby Holmes had just popped up in his stepfather’s former restaurant in Highbury, the perfectly preserved Italian décor clashing brilliantly with the fresh, fiery Thai cooking. Now the space is transformed into a low-lit, dark wood furnished larder stacked with recipe kits, fresh pastes and Thai groceries. I was there for hot takeaway for a birthday celebration and from our a la carte feast the best bits were prawn miang bites, crispy gai prik and roasted spring chicken marinated in panang curry paste.

It’s one of our favourites at CODE, so I was super happy when Blacklock announced they’d launched takeaway last week. The menu is slightly different to that of the restaurants, with less of a focus on chops and instead a pivot towards dishes that work better for delivery, such as a half or whole chicken. But fear not – their flatbread, white choccy cheesecake (which you can get the recipe for here) and negronis are still available for takeaway.

I’ll admit that MEATliquor doing vegan hot dogs feels wrong, but it tastes oh so right. A slightly indulgent weekend lunch treat, the chilli cheese dog is topped with black bean chilli, cheese, onions, jalapeños and mustard – and takes all of 10 minutes from start to finish. After taking my first bite, I went back to the packaging to double check that we hadn’t accidentally received the meat kit. We hadn’t – and if that isn’t the mark of a truly good vegan substitute, I don’t know what is. Plus, there’s a special offer for CODE members. Search ‘hot dogs’ on the CODE app for more information.
