Chris Leach of 10 Heddon Street is to launch Manteca. Set to open on 22 November on Great Marlborough Street in Soho, the menu will revolve around nose-to-tail cooking, hand rolled pastas and fire-cooked cuts.
Chris Leach will continue his 10 Heddon Street residency alongside the opening of Manteca. The restaurant is inspired by Leach’s time spent in Rome and Napoli, aiming to capture the simplicity of Italian dining culture. He wishes to combine this with the fast-paced metropolitan food scenes he experienced in L.A and New York. Leach will be joined by David Carter of SMOKESTAK.
Leach will buy whole animals from small independent UK-based farms, ensuring the restaurant uses everything from the skin to the fat of the animal for his cured meats. The menu will also feature small plates, such as duck sausage, prunes and Calabrian chilli. Daily hand-rolled egg pastas will be on offer, as well as larger dishes such as grilled lamb and pork chop.
The wine list will include a selection from independent wine suppliers, curated by Emily Acha Derrington. Meanwhile, the cocktail list will revolve around amaro, the Italian herbal liqueurs.
Commenting on the new opening, Leach says ‘David and I were really happy with the response to our 10 Heddon Street residency, and I’m looking forward to bringing that same spirit to Soho. Manteca is really an accumulation of what I’ve learnt in various kitchens over the years, from the live fire cooking of Pitt Cue Co to the seasonality of Petersham Nurseries. It’s all about a love of sharing really good food with friends.’
