Frank and Jackson Boxer will open a new walk-ins only bar in the West End on Wednesday 20 October. Below Stone Nest, a residency at the arts organisation of the same name, will be the second joint launch from the brothers, best known for their Vauxhall restaurant Brunswick House.
“The Boxers are joining forces with Stone Nest, an organisation offering a platform for bold, visionary artists and a space where audiences can encounter an eclectic programme of contemporary theatre, dance, music, video and performance,” an announcement read.
The basement bar, a former Welsh chapel and then hedonistic 80s’ nightclub, will open initially Wednesday to Saturday from 6pm-2am and will feature a short drinks list featuring low intervention house white, house red, an orange wine, a rosé, a cava and a Champagne. There will also be rotating specials to drink from the cellars at Brunswick House and a handful of cocktails and beers.
Stone Nest will also collaborate with guest curator Tic (of Young record label, whose acts include The XX, FKA Twigs, Ethan P. Flynn, Koreless and Sampha) on the bar’s music programme. Restoration work continues on the building.
Frank said: “As the London I grew up in is increasingly demolished, defaced and vandalised in the name of development, the opportunity to create a beautiful old fashioned dive bar in an extraordinary historic space in the heart of the west end is thrilling. My greatest ambition would be to establish some of the sense of joyous optimism and creative anarchy which typified the early days of Frank’s Cafe, by keeping the prices low, the offering simple and unimpeachable, and the space welcoming to everyone.”
Stone Nest’s artistic director Inna Schorr added: “We are absolutely thrilled to be collaborating with Frank and Jackson on our basement bar. The passion, vision and expertise they bring to this residency, alongside Stone Nest’s artistic programme, will create a vibrant social space and creative hub for artists, audiences and the wider public.”
Entrance to below Stone Nest is walk-in only, no reservations.
