Neighbourhood Fitzrovia restaurant The Ninth has closed following a ‘serious fire’ on Wednesday morning.
The cause of the fire is not yet known, but thankfully no injuries were reported.
A statement from chef-owner Jun Tanaka last night said he hopes to reopen in early August.
‘While we are of course disappointed not to be able to welcome our guests who had plans to dine with us, we can confirm that fortunately everyone is safe and accounted for’, he said.
‘Sadly, it looks likely we will be out of action for at least a couple of weeks.’
The Charlotte Street restaurant will contact customers to reschedule upcoming reservations, but no reopening date was announced.
‘Please bear with us. As always, we appreciate your patience and support’, Tanaka added.
The Ninth, Tanaka’s first solo project, opened in 2015 and has a Michelin star. Its seasonal menu focuses on ‘simple yet refined’ Mediterranean-style sharing plates.
