Exclusive: Emma Underwood named GM at the Midland Grand Dining Room

Last month, we reported the hotelier Harry Handelsman’s new project, the Midland Grand Dining Room, which will be in the old Gilbert Scott site at The Renaissance Hotel, King’s Cross.

In charge of the kitchen will be Handelsman’s long-time collaborator Patrick Powell, best-known currently for his excellent cooking at Allegra. But who will manage the new upscale brasserie? The award-winning GM Emma Underwood.

She’s now left her role at The Pem and will be joining the team at the Midland to prepare for an early(ish) 2023 opening.

‘I have long admired both Harry and Patrick, and what they are creating with Midland Grand Dining Room is really quite special,’ Emma told CODE.

‘I couldn’t be happier to be part of the opening team.’
