If you’re not yet completely fed up with chocolate after Christmas, you’re in luck, because there’s a chocolate festival in Soho this month.
Gelupo, the Italian gelateria in Soho, is hosting its annual ‘Sagra’ festival, introducing a whole lot more chocolate to its menu. A ‘Sagra’ is a festival held in Italy that shows off a particular region’s food or drink speciality.
Live now, the chocolate takeover includes vegan bitter chocolate sorbet, sweet white chocolate with essences of cardamom, rich sachertorte, and black forest.
If you’re in London, you’ll know it’s freezing at the moment, so the gelateria will also be serving “rich and delicious hot chocolate drinks”. You’ll also be well aware that the weather is drab and the mood a little restless so this is a nice thing to head to if you’re around town.
Also, there is no doubt London has a sweet tooth these days. Places like Crème, Gelupo and Arôme bakery are increasingly popular on social media, and Ave Mario’s 60cm high ice cream cake and gigantic lemon meringue pie is still about.
Jacob Kenedy, chef-owner of Gelupo, said: “Gelato is food for the inner child, whatever your age. Chocolate is the most sensuous of foods – almost sexual, as black as sin, and titillating as it melts on your tongue in your body heat. Chocolate lets children, of all ages, play at being grown-ups. It is with great and sensual pleasure that I declare Gelupo’s 2022 sagra of chocolate, open” says Jacob Kenedy, chef-owner of Gelupo.”
