Tottenham’s Nigerian tapas restaurant Chuku’s has teamed up with Honest Burgers to launch a limited-edition ‘NIGERIA’ burger.
The ‘NIGERIA’ combines the Honest beef patty with Fanta-candied bacon, cheddar, jollof sauce, plantain crisps, Chuku’s spicy mayo, red onion, spinach, and pickles, “for a burger that unites the staple flavours of Nigerian cuisine with the classic components of an Honest burger”.
Honest Burgers, which is celebrating its tenth year of trading, runs a series of collaborations and specials at its restaurants, which Chuku’s now joins.
On the collaboration, Honest’s head of collaboration Adam Layton said: “Our recipe sessions for this collab have been more like feasts. I’d tried all of Chuku’s recipe kit dishes over lockdown so I asked them to bring everything. Chuku’s always turned up with a big hamper of ingredients (with extra plantain crisps for snacking) and it was a real deep dive into Nigerian cooking. We’ve come up with a love letter to Nigeria in burger form, I just hope their mum approves.”
In a recent CODE meets interview with Emeka and Ifeyinwa, they said that Honest Burgers was one of their favourite places to dine, and Emeka himself has worked for the company in the past. The pair tell CODE about the collaboration:
“We started the first Chuku’s menu by playing around in our kitchen with Nigerian dishes that we love, whilst committing to stay true to the authenticity of the flavours that we grew up with.
“In some ways, the development process in collaboration with Honest Burgers felt like returning back to where we began – this time creating a burger instead of our Nigerian tapas. We’re proud to have created a burger which is as fun as Chuku’s is with the Fanta-candied bacon but also feels very Nigerian and we’re super excited to see the flavours of the much-celebrated jollof stew reach an even wider audience.”
