As people to continue to switch the capital for the countryside, it’s good to see more exciting new openings from across the UK. Launching next February, The Double Red Duke is that latest venture from pub & inn group Country Creatures in the Cotswolds.
Husband and wife duo Sam and Georgie Pearman are taking on the huge challenge of restoring, refurbishing and extending 17th century coaching inn just east of Oxford. When complete, The Double Red Duke will feature 19 bedrooms and a restaurant, as well as a garden room available for private hire. If you’ve visited any of Country Creatures’ other properties, you’ll know the interiors will be very homely and cosy, and this hotel sounds no different.
The restaurant will focus on cooking over an open fire with ex-Hawksmoor and Pitt Cue alumni Richard Turner leading the kitchen. It looks like the menu will offer proper comfort food, with large portions of grilled meats and vegetables and sides. Guests can choose to eat by the fire in the snug, in the dining room or the 14-seater counter where they can watch the chefs cook.
If you can’t wait until February, you can get a taste of The Double Red Duke next week, as it is hosting a preview of its menu at Carousel London for five days (8-12 December). Tickets cost £60pp and are available to buy now via Carousel.
