Dishoom to open in Birmingham

Published 3 December 2019

The team behind Dishoom have announced that Dishoom Birmingham will open in Spring 2020. The popular Bombay café will be situated in One Chamberlain Square at the heart of the city.

Dishoom Birmingham will be team’s seventh opening, following five in London and one in both Edinburgh and Manchester. First opening in Covent Garden in 2010, Dishoom has since served 7.5 million meals to diners and shows no signs of slowing down.

The restaurant will continue to pay homage to the old Irani cafes that were previously an integral part of life in Bombay, seeking to bring down barriers by bringing people together over food and drink. At their peak, there were almost four hundred Irani cafés, however now fewer than thirty remain in Bombay. Dishoom will draw on this history, whilst also exploring the connections between Bombay and Birmingham.

Executive chef Naved Nasir’s menu will be served all day, serving dishes influenced by Hindu, Muslim, Irani and Parsi traditions. A new chef’s special created especially for Dishoom Birmingham will also be on offer, with more details to be revealed soon. Additionally, guests can enjoy Dishoom’s cocktails, chai, coolers and more in the Permit Room bar.

The opening will be a welcomed source of employment, creating more than 100 new jobs in the city. The team, led by co-founders Shamil and Kavi Thakrar, commented that they are delighted to be moving into this new home, where they will enjoy the company of the city’s most beautiful and historic buildings.
