The reopening of restaurants is coming ever closer, and there are some great new launches to get excited about, too. The latest news comes from Harts Group, as the team behind Barrafina and Quo Vadis is opening a fifth El Pastor in Soho. Taking over the former HIX site, El Pastor Soho is set to open its doors in June 2021.
The original El Pastor opened on Stoney Street in 2016, followed by Tortilleria El Pastor in Bermondsey, and a further two in Coal Drops Yard. The team has been searching for a site small enough for its Mexican taqueria in Soho for a few years, and have now found the perfect spot on Brewer St.
“Soho is our spiritual home in many ways. It’s where Fino launched, it’s where we have Barrafina and Quo Vadis, and James, Crispin and I spent many long, happy evenings in HIX Soho under Mark’s stewardship” says Sam Hart. “We plan to do justice to the legacy of this special, magnetic site with El Pastor Soho.”
The menu will serve the Mexican dishes that El Pastor’s fans know and love, inspired by the three founder’s travels around the country. All tortillas are made in-house daily, and there will be a new focus on seasonal seafood tostadas – plus a debut for a crispy duck taco sharing plate.
The 86-cover ground floor will reference downtown Mexico City, and the 60-cover basement will be used for events, with a musical programme in place. Summer couldn’t come soon enough.
