Joy at Portobello
Today sees restaurants all over the capital and beyond wondering what to do with their supplies, ordered in expectation of a busy period up to Christmas. As we all know, that’s now banned. We hope many have been able to share it out amongst staff or use it up on what looked like a very busy night in London.
However some are either already organised in selling off their stock: Chantelle Nicholson had a “garage sale” on Wednesday at All’s Well in Hackney – and is opening up again on Friday- and Stevie Parle is considering holding a “restaurant car boot sale” at Joy at Portobello on Saturday, offering retail space to other restaurateurs to sell their unused produce, dishes, etc. Contact him via his Instagram for more details. Meanwhile from Friday, The Cheese Bar is setting up a cheese and wine shop on its Camden premises to sell its produce – everyone needs great cheese at Christmas after all. And places like Parlour will return to having a big retail offer.
If any other operators are considering turning to retail even if just for a day, let us know and we’ll do what we can to spread the word.
