An Instagram post went viral over the weekend in which the Four Legs restaurant responded to an influencer who had asked for a free meal – you can see the full message on Instagram here.
Over the course of several texts – in which the request became for five free meals – the restaurant eventually directed the individual to the pick-up point, which turned out to be the police station. “Go in there are report yourself for crimes against the hospitality industry” was Four Legs’ final message.
Four Legs has received a huge number of supportive comments from fellow chefs and restaurateurs for its no-nonsense response to the request: not unreasonable, given the dire straits in which many operators find themselves.
Of course, the balance between the invaluable exposure on the right social media accounts and not giving away valuable stock is a delicate one, especially now – and it can be hard for a restaurant to make the right call. ‘Don’t be greedy’ seems like a reasonable starting point for influencers…
