It has yet to be confirmed by the man himself but it is being widely reported that Gordon Ramsay is set to secure the legendary Le Gavroche site at 43 Upper Brook Street in Mayfair. According to a story in Restaurant, Union Street Café Limited, an arm of the Ramsay empire, has successfully applied for a premises license transfer from Westminster Council, just over a year after Michel Roux closed the restaurant. The deal represents a full circle moment for Ramsay, who worked as a commis chef at Le Gavroche in the late ’80s. It is another big move for Ramsay who this month opened his 22 Bishopsgate project in the City, complete with an outpost of Lucky Cat and his chef’s table concept High. Little is known of Ramsay’s plans for the site but rumours abound that Restaurant Gordon Ramsay co-chef patron Matt Abé will lead the kitchen. What we know for certain is that the site will not be called Le Gavroche, as Michel Roux still owns the name. Le Gavroche opened in 1967 and was the first UK restaurant to hold three Michelin stars.
