When Nick Jones opened Pizza East in 2009 there wasn’t really much like it in London. A huge restaurant space with an open plan kitchen serving decent pizzas for an affordable price.
While much of Shoreditch has changed over the past decade, Pizza East is still doing what it does best – serving great pizza in a fun setting. As of earlier this year, the restaurant is now being headed up by Ollie Jones and Gus Haughton who have both worked for The River Café and Soho House.
Under their stewardship, they’ve transformed the bar at the front of the restaurant into a deli serving wines from Tutto Wines in Hackney, cured meats and cheese from Vallebone, coffee from Grind, Forest Road beers, Pizza East tiramisu and polenta cake and some of their branded Pizza East merch too.
Thanks to the lockdown, we’ve been seeing a lot of hospitality businesses transition to offering more a of retail offering – clearly there is a new demand from customers and it seems always a good thing to have up your sleeve these days, just in case.
