Salon in Brixton has closed permanently after almost ten years due to ‘challenging trading conditions’, the restaurant owners said.
Nicholas Balfe, Matthew Bushnell, and Mark Gurney announced the closure on Tuesday, and said the decision was made ‘with a deep reluctance’ and a ‘heavy heart’.
They said: ‘It has been an incredible ten year journey for us and the team in Brixton. The market has provided us with a brilliant home, a space to develop our menus and host a whole range of diners – from locals to those further afield.
‘Industry trading conditions continue to be more challenging than ever, unfortunately meaning we have had to make this difficult decision. We want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has supported us over the years.’
Salon opened in Market Row in 2012, serving the type of contemporary British menu that went on to become the norm in London.
The restaurant started life as a pop-up above a cheese shop and its popularity moved the team to set up regularly with a weekly changing menu.
In 2016, the trio opened a bar and bottle shop downstairs, which has also shut.
