Silo returns to Hackney Wick as a wine bar

Good news for fans of the pioneering zero-waste restaurant Silo; it reopens on 20 August, albeit different to when we left it. Douglas McMaster’s Hackney Wick site will temporarily return as Silo X Wine Bar until social distancing measures ease.

Whilst the idea has changed, the ethos certainly hasn’t. Silo X Wine bar features a new zero-waste menu and drinks offering, including small plates such as grilled flatbread with smoked aubergine and larger dishes including cuttlefish kebab.

Wines will be low or no intervention from small producers, with a new cocktail menu in collaboration with Ryan Chetiyawardana and beer from the Crate HQ in the same building on offer.

Earlier this week McMaster and Chetiyawardana announced they wouldn’t reopen their Hoxton hybrid restaurant and bar Cub, but plan to keep the brand going through events and pop-ups.

“I’m delighted to be reopening Silo this month,” says McMaster. “The wine bar is the perfect way for us to invite back guests and regulars and will help us segue toward reopening the restaurant towards the end of the year.”
