While we wait for today’s Budget announcement, looking forward to next month when dining outside is allowed is a welcome distraction. Of course, not all restaurants have a terrace, garden or closed-off street to utilise but we are thankful for those that do.
One restaurant whose reopening is much anticipated is Smoking Goat, whose menu of fiery Thai food is not something most people can hope to replicate at home. During lockdown, the chef team has been working on new dishes and there will be daily changing laabs (spicy chopped meat salads) and plenty of British produce given a Bangkok spin – from Dorset clams to Welsh mutton. As head chef Ben Curtis says, “the silver lining of lockdown has been the chance to work without distraction on a set of dishes that reflect the energy of Smoking Goat on a lively night.”
The 60-seater space – which anyone whose been to Shoreditch will recognise as the closed-off end of Redchurch Street – is both heated and covered, which is good news given the unpredictability of spring weather. From 12 April it will be open from 12pm till 10pm every day.
