Barge East

All aboard the barge for riverside views or cosy up in the heated terrace and cabins across the towpath. Barge East has its own huge kitchen garden where 40 varieties of fruit, vegetables and herbs are maintained by the chefs. One of the crops is hops, and the team are working with Truman’s brewery to develop their own beer.

The Stratford is the first thing you’ll see upon exiting Stratford International and high on the 7th floor you’ll find Allegra. A succession of big names are behind the elegant space and outstanding menu, with interiors designed by Space Copenhagen (also behind Noma) and the kitchen is led by Patrick Powell, previous head chef at Chiltern Firehouse.

Yard Sale Pizza Leytonstone

The neighbourhood pizza joint made for takeaway. In 2014, Yard Sale founders Nick, Johnnie and Dan endeavoured to create pizza that could stand the test of delivery. The answer lay in a carefully formulated, high-hydration, 48-72hr fermented dough which gives the 18” pies their full-flavour and perfectly spotted crust. 

Haugen

You might not find snow in Stratford you will find Haugen – a Alpine-inspired spot offering up serious après-ski vibes. The vast chalet-esque restaurant is made cosy with pinewood furnishings, faux-fur rugs and a cheese heavy menu of raclette, fondue and tartiflette.

Bowling, burgers and booze. What’s not to love? The All Star crew took the London bowling scene by storm back in the day with retro lanes and classic American diner dishes. The Stratford site is in Westfield shopping centre so why not make a day of it and with some retail therapy beforehand.

The Spread Eagle

The Spread Eagle is one of East London’s oldest pubs with the spirited buzz you’d expect from a traditional boozer. The only difference is it’s London’s only 100% plant-based pub. Chef Gina Hopkins is a talent, and hides vegan virtue in the classic menu. Even the fixtures and fittings are all plant-based and sourced as sustainably as possible.
